I own a 2005 Saab 9-3 Linear and quite unexpectedly, I got the " Key not accepted. Contact a Saab dealer." message. I have changed the fob battery and now the fob will not engage the car in any way. It will not unlock the doors or turn the ignition. The car battery seems fine and does not appear low.

I only have one key/fob and am unable to test it with another. It may be unrelated but I did notice that the fob seemed sticky in the key slot area inside the fob. I have found others with similar issues posted on this forum as well as other forums but have not found any answers that seem to resolve my problem.

Any help/thoughts would be appreciated as to what may be the problem.

Edit: wups, maybe I am a jerk. I never got a "key not accepted" message when mine went out. Anyway, try unplugging the battery like the second thread suggests. any luck?

I had read the similar threads but as I had said in my original question none of the suggestions in the other threads addressed my issue so I was hoping for an update from someone before taking it to the dealer.

It's very posssible the passive rfid chip has gone,failing that the cim,as the battery has nothing to do with starting the car..

Either way dig deep $$$,as you only have 1 fob..

As i have been trying different options, I have now noticed that I get nothing at all. No lights on the dash and no error messaging. The wheel is locked and I have to manually open the doors. The only lights that are working are the interior lights above my head. Other than that no response.

The dealer was closed today but I was able to take the battery elsewhere to get tested and it was fine. The odd thing I noticed was that after putting the battery back in the headlight lights flashed and the fob opened the door remotely. I thought maybe it was going to work, until I placed the fob in the ignition and nothing...well...same error message returned and after inserting the key once I could not unlock the doors remotely again.

eek, it doesn't look good for ya. Sounds like you will for sure need a trip to the dealer/indy... If the key you have is completely toasted, you will need to replace some components in the car as well as the key. From what I have seen it will prob be around $1,000 or more... I personally can't think of anything else for you to try. sry If they get it working for you, get another key ASAP

Dutch, make an appt and have the battery tested by Saab. My battery read fine also but when Saab dealer tested it with their equipment, it failed.
