Hi,

We own a Saab 9-3 Arc 2.0T (2004)

My wife mainly drives the car.

The other day the car wouldn't unlock with her set of the key fob. When she tried my fob...no issues.

Would it be the battery on the key fob? If so, how do I open the key fob to replace the battery?

Could it be an issue that the key fob is out of sync with the car?

Thanks AV

I think if the battery is dead, the sid will notify you. this happened to me the other week, there is a series of button pushes you have to perform to "re-sync". Afraid I cant recall the process, but a service tech could tell you via the phone or email.

Quoting from the manual:

After changing the battery you must
synchronize the remote control with the
car’s receiver unit so that the car recognizes
it. Synchronization takes place when the
remote control is inserted into the ignition
switch for the first time after a battery
change.
If the battery has been changed outside the
car and the car is locked, proceed as follows:
1 Unlock the front left door with the traditional
key. If the car has a car alarm, this
will be tripped.
2 Open the door and insert the remote
control into the ignition switch. If the car
has a car alarm, this will be silenced.
The remote control and receiver unit are
now synchronized.

Hi All,

I changed the battery, but the method of sync detailed in the post was not successful.

I tried the following (after replacing remote battery)...
a) Put key into ignition - left in for around 1 min. Tried to lock & unlock - NO SUCCESS

b) Put key into ignition, & started the car. Drove for 2 mins, then tried to lock & unlock - NO SUCCESS

I'll call the Saab Tech Support tomorrow.

Thanks AV

Did you make sure the battery is inserted in the correct direction?

I didn't install the new battery, my wife's friend did last week as I was traveling.

I'm going to open it tonight to make sure.

Thanks AV

I spoke to Saab Tech - they said a re-sync doesn't need to occur, it should work correctly after replacing the battery.

Maybe the battery is the wrong way round. Well...let's hope so.

Thanks AV

Did it go through the washing machine? Mine did - it does all sorts of weird stuff - lock the doors, start walking away and the car unlocks itself [four times in a row] - the alarm started going off in the garage - I had to move the remote to the oppostie side of the house to stop the car from going off - I think it has developed a sense of mischief

Nope...just stopped working.

We have two remote control fobs, and my wife's stopped working. Mine still works.

Thanks AV

Sometimes it's the simple things that cause the most trouble.
