Hi all,

I hope this information is useful to others with NG 900 or 9000 models. It took me some time to gather it, so I just want to share with the Saab community.

Scanwest in Seattle will reprogram keyless remote alarm fobs for $30.

You can usually get a good used unit on eBay for under $30 with shipping.

Carter Subaru in Ballard used to be a Saab dealer. They still have the machine to cut high security keys. If you have a blank, they will cut it for $15 as long as you have a key to copy.

You can usually get aftermarket blank keys on eBay for around $10 - $15 with shipping.
These are the brands that I've found. But, they are all nickel plated brass and not solid steel. If you know where to find steel keys or Saab OEM blanks please share.

Silca YM30D
Ilco 532YSP

Also, Guardian Security in Tacoma will make copies for $35 including the key. I'm not sure about their other offices, but the do have one in Seattle.

This information does not necessarily apply to models using transponder keys, but these businesses might be able to help you.

Don't get ripped off. For example, I called Autobahn Specialists in Tacoma and they quoted an hour of shop labor at $105 to reprogram a fob. Scanwest said it's a 20 minute job and I've also read other similar info on this forum.

Because of this, I doubt I would trust them to work on my car. If they are willing to gouge for a small job it makes me question their integrity.

Thanks for posting the local information, Even though I'm not on the west coast, I'm sure that this information will steer people away from some over-priced shops and towards other reasonably-priced shops... Ron

Hi again,

Just wanted to give an update on a few things. I've purchased two good used remote fobs on eBay from different sellers. I got one for $15 and the another for $20, including shipping. They are in ok cosmetic condition and you can get nicer ones for $30 - $60 and sometimes a NOS unit for about $90. For me, I don't care if they look a bit warn. As long as they work well I'm all for the cheap price. By the way, I also noticed some ads for new silicon button covers, but they cost around $17/pair not including shipping. That seems a bit much and luckily none of m7 fobs need them.

As for the key issue, I finally made a choice and bought a pair on eBay. One is an Orion S32YSP and the other is an Silca YM30P. Both are made in Italy and are identical other than the brand and part numbers molded into the black plastic head. I haven't got them cut yet, but they seem sturdy enough. I'm also pretty sure they're nickel plated brass. It's not easy to find solid steel OEM type keys, and with the Saab bankruptcy I decided to just get what I could quickly. I bought both from the same eBay seller, lewellyn390, for $6.99/ea + $2.95 shipping. They were shipped pretty quickly, too from North Carolina.

Hopefully I'll get the keys cut and fobs programmed within the next week or two. I'll update then.
