Hi all. I'm in a rut about getting a factory replacement air filter for my 92 900s LPT and it seems my standard air filter is not that standard as all the measures of my air filter do not correspond with any K&N filter that they say will fit in the factory location. I don't really want to go for a pod as it would have to go under the engine bay to get all the cold air.
The measurements of my filter are H = 132mm
outside D = 150mm
inside D = 90mm
Does anyone have the same size filter and if so what type have you upgraded to?

Sports air filter

You can get a direct replacement JT Sports Air Filter, they are the same size as standard air filters but about half the thinkness, you should also be able to get the bits to mount it direct to the air intake aswell if you want an open filter other wise it's a straight swap into the filter housing.

I'm pretty sure there's a link somewhere on this site to a company who do the JT filters.

JT or JR filters, I'm looking at JR filters at the mo, they look like they are the right size but photo's can be deceiving but still for peace of mind would like to get measurement of H and Inside D from others that might have replaced theirs just to be shure before I buy as I'm 16000 miles away and returns ain't that common down here in paradise.

Air filter

Think mines prob JR, been a while since I bought it though! My car is a t8 and I've got a feeling that the T8 & T16 filters are slightly different sizes so best find someone with a T16 and get them to measure it just incase.

I'll prob be pulling it out of my car at the weekend (along with the engine) so I'll check the dimensions.

Using a combo of bits from a T16 airbox and one of those supa long dash board screws I've managed to 'knock up' an open air filter which(hopefully) will fit in my LH wing, I'll get some pics once its set properly........anyway it's a cheap mod!!!

BTW what is the best location/setup for an intake on a N/a 900? Currently I have the CAI on 900 aero..Im wondering its there a better set up.If I go to the fender and have vents-it may not have enough pressure there to be effective. If I go through hood it will ruin C900 lines. And if I keep my current set up its just ineffiencent.

this is mildly unrelated, but is the benefit of a K&N filter really noticeable?

i've thought about getting one for a few years, but never bothered.

i know the car "sounds" a little different, but are there real performance gains that you can feel??

i'm considering it b/c (if i ever get my car running again (bad ECU i think)) i was going to change the wires/plugs/other regular maintenance. and then i was thinking of the K&N / a new APC box / 3.0 FPR

i might buy a used APC and the "red box" do-it-yourself kit.

if anyone has experience/opinion, i would appreciate it.

thanks

I never felt any difference from the K&N, used it on two Jeeps.
I stopped using them after i realized theyre not water resistant, meaning they
let water right thru....this is an issue on a Jeep....but the paper elements held on to small droplets.

I have no use for them, Id rathe use a paper/foam cone if I was to do a cold air setup, but then I would probably just water inject....

Anyhow, I'm curious at what point the stock setup w/bosh filter
really becomes a bottleneck, 200hp...250hp....300hp..??

Generally speaking: a new k&n has a slight edge over a standard paper air filter, but after getting dirty once, they never get as good as new, even if you wash them thoroughly. So after a half a year or so, the k&n has no advantage whatsoever over a paper air filter. Also: a paper filter seems to be better at filtering.

I got this information after a thorough internet search. If you're interested, i can find the relevant links.
