20% around
50% windshield

$290 - a few bucks more than the dealership quoted, but dealer wouldnt go darker than 35% on front windows and wouldnt do windshield at all.

Just in time before the weather starts getting hot!

Did you honestly tint your windshield?
Except the windshield, seems like local law enforcement wouldn't like that. Maybe he just did the top part, but by the pictures it doesn't look that way

Arizona Window Tint Law

Arizona Tint Law Enacted: 1994
HOW DARK CAN WINDOW TINT BE IN ARIZONA?

Darkness of tint is measured by Visible Light Transmission percentage (VLT%). In Arizona, this percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed in through the combination of film and the window.
WindshieldNon-reflective tint is allowed along the top of the windshield above the manufacturer's AS-1 line. Front Side WindowsMust allow more than 33% of light in.Back Side WindowsAny darkness can be used.Rear WindowAny darkness can be used. HOW REFLECTIVE CAN THE TINT BE IN ARIZONA?

Similar to sunglass lenses, some tinting film contain metallic elements that help in reflecting incoming light and reducing the glare and heat generated by visible light.

Well it's about time! I'm sure you could really use it in AZ. Why did you go so dark though?

You wouldnt happen to know the tint laws in chicago would you?
I think it's 35% which is what I have. I don't think it's enforced much. There are plenty of gang bangers and ghetto cruisers for the cops to chase down vs. a nice Saab:lol:

i did 35% all around (minus front windshield)

problems with going past legal limit:
1. ticket from cop
2. fail inspection
3. loss of warranty (got a life time warranty when i got my tint)
4. darker you go, harder to see at night, even with 35% i still do a double take

it's all a personal preference on how dark, but in this case i think its just easier to stay within the legal limits. even with 35% you can still fail because there are different types of light sensors (don't know the name of the device) that either shoot high or low. unless your friends with the person doing your inspection, or become new friends by slipping him a $20 then that eliminates that problem. cops are a whole different story, some care, some don't. either your lucky or your not.

Looks much better!

I was thinking about getting a titanium tint? (not sure whats its called exactly) on the windshield. Its a clear film that wont make the glass darker but more reflective. That way nobody (police ) can tell that its tinted, yet you still wont be able to see inside; from some distance at least.

I had never tinted windshield on a car before, but I have noticed quite a few vehicles on the road here in AZ with tinted windshields - so many that I felt any laws against it must be losely enforced.

I imagine if I did something really blatant and/or stupid a cop could pile on by ticketing me for tint. But so far driving around since the tint was put on, there have been some opportunity for police to pull me over and they havent. Bigger fish to fry I guess?

I also have tinted pastic license plate cover and havent caught any grief for it (yet) dispite plenty of opportunity for a cop driving behind me to pull me over for it.

Why did I go so dark?

AZ summers can hit highs of 118f. Its a black car w/ dark interior. Windshield is biggest window on the car. Dispite AC blasting, in the summer you can still feel the heat radiating off the windshield into the car. You can feel the heat baking the side of your face when the sun shines on the side windows. I have young child (and baby on the way) who ride in the back and complain about the sun. It can be brutal out here!

I'd love to get my windshield tinted, but I'm also already running around with all 25%, and I drive way too damned fast for my own good. Just not willing to risk adding any more reason to get pulled over.

That windshield looks great, though. You'll definitely love it during the summer. Now get your Comfort Close enabled!

looks great!

dark tint on a black car = awesome

I've done 20% all around on mine minus the windshield of course.

Every states laws are different, in WI 20% is legal on all windows except the front sides, 35% is the legal limit on front sides. Any % on the windsheild is illegal, except the header strip. I though 35% was too light and I had to have it match all around, never once have I had any issues with the federales around here. I think of it as you really have to try to get a ticket for having too dark of tint (read: being a d-box)

Reflective tint is illegal in almost all states. Make sure to check the tinting laws in your area.

planning on doing the side windows on my convertible. I never do the rear window (just in case). Honestly never heard of tinting a windshield. Here in PA, ANY applied tint is illegal. Removing from side windows if you get busted isnt bad but with the defroster wires on the rear, not so fun!
