I have been having issues in my '08 93 where when the key is turned the car does not always start. When this happens, the starter does not engage at all. When the starter engages, the engine starts every time. I have also noticed that sometimes when the car starts, the radio does not turn on, and it seems like these two things could be related.

I have also seen some errors pop up on the dash that I believe are connected, such as an airbag warning and a steering lock warning. Both of these have come on while driving, and while I've been lucky enough not to test the airbags, the steering lock seems to work just fine.

When you say "starter doesn't engage", does that mean the starter does nothing? Or does it mean it spins without engaging the engine?

If it's the former, do you hear any clicks from the engine compartment when you try to start the car? Open windows, raise hood to hear better. You might want to check while having someone work the key.

If it's the latter, the starter is pooched.

It ended up being the ISM, and after replacing it, the errors have not come up and the car and radio have started first try every time. I think I may have been able to clean and reuse the original ISM, but since I was able to find a cheap replacement I decided it wasn't worth the time.
