Rattling noise coming from the water pump area -- I think it is the water pump -- does this mean it is going bad? What is a reasonable cost to replace? I am not mechanically inclined so I will have to take it to a shop.

Good to have decent hearing, the wife complained of a "little rattle noise" in the old Honda at 7 years, 90K miles..
I ignored her, and it turned out to be the water pump..
The same will happen to the V6 Saab, but this will take more time/miles - better design....
Check the serpentine belt and its pulleys.
Monitor the coolant level.
Maybe, just maybe, do all the belts(timing and serpentine), the pulleys and the pump at the same time.. Turning a $100 job into a $500 goldmine..
Keep good records , doing the timing belt every 36K miles is bad enough...

all belts were changed in January at the dealer when they did the last "free" V6 belt replacement.
