is this heat shield loose? is it meant to have this much play? not sure if this caused a metallic rattling or grinding type of sound

Looking at further symptoms in your other post, but without viewing the video, i would like to add:

My 2006 combi has a very specific rattle (occurs only under 30mph, between 1,300-1,500 rpm,)

Sounds for all the world like a classic heat shield type of rattle.

Turned out to be my exhaust pipe somewhat broken where it joins the flex-pipe (braided piping)
Not a heat shield issue at all, and no real fix other than a clamp (current, solved about 75% of rattling) or replacing parts of the exhaust.

Take it to an exhaust shop and have them look at it from underneath. A tech will be able to pinpoint the source of the noise.
