Considering buying the Forge FMINT93 intercooler but as usual it will be much more expensive here (if by any chance anyone would stock one in Australia) or alternatively buying it from Genuine SAAB and paying almost the same in shipping costs as the intercooler itself.

So I have seen this on ebay many a time and though - maybe......

After doing research on this site and following a few other links I think it might be more bother than it's worth considering physical size, especially height. Could it be done??

Too tall without removing some stuff (i.e. AC dryer). Are there any that are shorter? I'm also using an ebay intercooler that has dimensions 28x8x3.5. So, the width and thickness of that one is fine, but you don't want to go taller than 8", a hair shorter if possible.

Well I just did a quick search for you and the exact one that I'm using goes for AU $87 + AU $144. Seems like the exchange rate doesn't set AU - USD$ too far apart so it seems still relatively cheap. You'll need the intercooler piping which could go for another $50 in parts but if you're comparing to Genuine Saab, it could still be a deal.

Thank you very much for your input Comtrang!

Yes exchange rate is good for me :cheesy:

Was the install straight forward? This is important for me to know as I will be relying - no I mean paying my SAAB specialist to install. So it maybe cheaper than GS but install costs might be more.....

Have you got a link for the ebay supplier in the US?

sure i'm sure
dont forget you'll need IC piping or if u are going cheap way you can use factory IC hose on one side just extend it a little bit.on other side u can use two 90' hoses and aluminium pipe and DIY with something.dont forget to take out silencer from pipe before.

Well, it definitely isn't bolt-on but it was nothing impossible by any means. If you do a search on the forum here, I think there are a couple who took notes of their installs of the same intercooler. I'd search for you on that as well but I've had eye issues the last few weeks and so this is as far as I can reach at the moment :p

Thanks again Comtrang!!

Well I just got a quote from a Forge supplier here in Melbourne and it's a whopping Aus $1650 - and of course they will have to order it. No, no , no :nono;

No problem ;)

And it sounds like ebay is the way to go in this case, in my opinion. Plus, its just a lot bigger than the baby Forge :cheesy:

Have fun with it.

I installed a slightly larger ebay intercooler than the one SaabNGT linked to, but it required a bunch of modification to the intercooler itself. Here's my thread about that process. http://www.saabcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=176658

You'd be better off with the one SaabNGT posted though, it will fit better and not require as many modifications. Point is, ebay intercooler is definitely the way to go if you are even the remote bit mechanically inclined.

Thanks nickfjields, I have been following your thread, it's one of the reasons I have the inspiration to upgrade.

That's pretty wide, if you're wanting to route the plumbing through by the radiator, it will be impossible with this.

Have a look at this:

the only problem you may run into with this intercooler is the thickness. my 3 inch thick is a tight fit, you may be able to get 3.5" in there but I'd make sure that I could return the IC if it didn't, and if you do buy this IC, test fit it first before anything else

The intercooler is on - not finished just yet but went by my mechanic today to have a look

Should get my car back tomorrow, thanks to all for you input, and SAABNGT. Will update on how she runs at the weekend.

I have a bracket running across the top of mine also but I didn't have it bend down on the sides like that, just straight across.

3.5" is fine, same thickness as ETS and the link I posted is the exact one I've used for a couple years.

I did replace the oil cooler with an aftermarket one, though, which sits above the intercooler, but I don't remember if it was because of fitment or if it was just cause we broke the connections when trying to remove it.
