I have a 1996 Saab 900 SE turbo that has an issue with the ignition-- I can turn the key to start the car up just fine, but unless I hold the key there or mess with it enough (and I haven't been able to figure out exactly what causes success other than holding the key while trying to find some sweet spot), the car will shut off.

Solutions?

Pull the console to expose the ignition switch. Stick a rag underneath, and clean with triflow. Cycle a few times while spraying it in all the mechanism. (Battery disconnected of course.)

That may fix it. Otherwise you will need a new switch.
