www.car-part.com , ebay, FB marketplace.....

Beware of the super cheap ones, they are usually being sold for parts, and most likely will not work.

And from other hand….I bought an ECU from a very “reputable” company, highly recommended on this forum, paid top of the $$$, with 12 month warranty.
ECU failed next day. Good luck getting your money back. They said we will clone it again, and if it fails we will keep cloning for 12 months. Yup. They were simply buying from eBay, cloning and reselling.

Your approach and what Wags recommended above is fine. Just make sure you are getting 30 day money back, if it fails.
contact Esaabparts or hirschmann-koxha to get a warranteed refurb. Cheap is a gamble - the used eBay replacement may only be good for 6 months for all you know.

then install the spacer kit or relocate. I’ve carefully logged the temps for over a year now and the spacer kit really decouples the ecu temp from the manifold. I have an old thread on here about it. relocation is probably better, but hirschmann-koxha found it is only slightly cooler than the spacer. This agrees with my data in that the mounting point for the relocation is almost the same temp as the front half of the ecu with the spacer after heat soak stabilizes.

I would go with eSaabparts. They used to have 14-day back order but now it seems they have ECUs in stock. $$$, but it’s a good bet. Personally I would do it if I needed an ECU

Go to a junkyard and hope that there's an ECU in a 9-3, I think you want one 2005 or newer. And hope it works.

You will still need a Tech II to install it.

If they have their old one they can clone to a new T8 easily without a Tech2

I've never seen an ECU in a 9-3 in a junkyard....first part gone on arrival guaranteed. It speaks to the sheer volume of ECU failures in these cars.
Super thanks for the info
Still confused about the ecm in my 2005 9-3 linnear i think my ecm is bad. Is it beat to send it off to be cloned does my car have to be present to marry it. Or can i get one programmed then plug it in and it will work. Sorry????????????
Do you have tune in your car (old ECU)?
If yes, you might want it, so clone ECU.
If no, no cloning needed, only marriage with TECH2.
Having done this a couple times now, I can definitely agree with the folks who said:

1. Buy off eBay or other reputable source that will take a return if it's dead on arrival

2. Clone it using Trionic CAN flasher and OBDlink SX (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005ZWM0R4). Here's the first google result I found, but there are others or videos that may be better. Saab ECU flashing and cloning options – Diagnostic Network

3. Install a heat shield kit unless you want to get really good at this clone process

Good luck!

1: Stolen ECU is cheapest one.
2: You can not tell if there is tune or not unless you check it.
3: Useless, I prefer Saab Taiwan relocation kit.
I now own my own tech 2 with software. What ecm can I use
Does it have to be an ecm out of a 2005 9 3 linear. Or???????
