Ok.....here goes the guide on how to replace your faulty wiper motor and wiper motor transmission assembly.

time taken
about an hour while taking many pictures, fooling around and with 0 experience.
for someone with experience and no digital camera to make pauses around 20minutes.

tools needed

flat screwdriver

10mm, 13mm of these

for starters take your time...it is a rather simple task but you have to be careful with the plastic clips and teeth of the weather cover not to damage any or your cover wont get into position perfectly after the re-installation.

Stickers on the product package

1st step is to remove the wiper arms. There is a black plastic cover and under it there is a 13mm nut that secures the wiper arm with the wiper transmission moving edge.

After removing the 13mm nut you have to use a puller to disengage the wiper arm from the transmission moving edge

now that we have the wiper arms out of the way it is time to remove the plastic weather cover to reveal the wiper motor and wiper transmission assembly

to do so you have to unclip 2 plastic clpis (1 on each side)

and then remove the rubber weatherstrip that keeps the engine bay protected from water and also holds the plastic cover in place

now the big plastic cover is ready to get out of the way to reveal the whole wiper motor and transmission assembly.

pay extreme attention not to break any plastic teeth or clips that are located near the windshield area.

2photos below show the "be careful while removing" tricky part.

now that we have cleared the way to the wiper motor and transmission assembly it is time to loosen the 4x 10mm nuts........one on the middle of the windshield.....2 near the motor and one on the driver side near the door.
the middle one is shown on above pic......other 3 are shown below.

now the wiper motor and trasmission is almost free....only thing that is left to do it to unplug the power connector.use a flat screwdriver to unclip the safety and remove the connector.

the old and the new part together for comparisons.
notice that the new part has better seals around the 4 10mm nut areas and also a new design near the wiper motor.....(oh....it also comes with a brand new set of nut-screws and rubber rings)

everything back in place and ready to go:cheesy:

I hoped you enjoyed the guide the same way I enjoyed the 30euros I saved from the dealer......I ll better buy me a few more drinks tomorrow night:cheesy:

Cardone Motor

I bought the remanufactured motor listed in the link above and installed it into my '05 9-3 Aero this weekend. It went in pretty easily and it is definitely worth the $150 saved by not buying the entire wiper drive assembly. Found the motor for under $100 with free shipping.

I had the same problems as most:

1. Washer pump didn't pump.
2. Wipers didn't work on the automatic rain sensing mode.
3. Wipers would stop without returning to the park position.

Removal instructions and parts were identical to those posted above for the earlier model year.

Make sure to have some clamps and a breaker bar handy because the retaining nut on the output shaft of the motor is on there tight. A small gear puller is also good to have to take the drive arm off of the output shaft. I had a bigger puller and had to cut off the rubber boot that went around the old motor shaft so the puller could grab under the drive arm.

When putting it back together I found it helpful to not attach the drive arm to the output shaft of the motor until the entire trans and motor was put back into the vehicle. That way I could be sure the drive arms were properly aligned. (I put it all together before reinstalling into the car and the wipers didn't park in the correct spot.) There is plenty of room to clamp the drive arms and tighten the retaining nut after it is all bolted into the vehicle.

Hope this helps and I'll let you know if it isn't performing properly. It is definitely nice to have a working washer fluid system again during the middle of winter!

Great instructions first of!!!

My passenger side wiper arm on 2006 Aero Combi just stopped working, drive side works perfectly (insert wood and two knocks). Any thoughts if it's a loose nut, or if the wiper transmission can fail on one side? I'm guessing loose bolt or fail bushing?? Anyone one else experience this?
Thanks

Amazon sells wiper arm pullers. This is the one I got when I replaced the arms on my 9-5. Worked like a charm.

You could also try an auto parts store, although they tend to sell cheaper ones that may not be as 'universal' as the packaging proclaim.

Well was it difficult without this puller tool?

I just unscrewed the nut and then lifted up on the wiper, it came off rather easy (it didnt just slide off, I had to put a little muscle to it but nothing a 6 year old girl couldnt handle). the wipers are splined so when you go to put it back on just make sure you line it up properly.

Help with wiper transmission alignment

Ok, so i replaced my wiper motor and transmission and i'm having a difficult time getting it aligned. Seems the wipers go down 6 inches before going back up so i had to install them a lot higher than they should be to get them to not crash into the bottom of the windshield area.

Now, im pretty sure i need to unbolt the transmission from the motor, rotate the transmission some distance and re install. I just don't know the proper position.

Is there a straightforward, (explainable) procedure for this or is it going to be trial and error?

Good article

I just tried doing this with my '05 9-3 Aero and I am in the same position as you Grilly. I think in the morning I will try what rob_saab suggested and put the motor in first and then the driver arm. This way the motor is in the down position and then it's just a matter of lining up the driver arm and the wipers for the down position. I this the driver arm needs to be positioned to the right of the motor per the picture.

I also found it easier to attach/detach the wipers when they are up away from the windshield. This way the spring isn't putting tension on the stud. A little wiggling and they should move pretty easily.

Glad I'm not alone. I agree, the spring tension against the windshield is what makes it harder to remove the wipers.

As far as alignment, I think it's going take a little observation on the movement so i'll rip back into Saturday morning. Was getting dark last night and i just wanted my wipers back.
