My Brake Master Cylinder is shot...(brake falls slowly to floor).

I've got a used one on the way....and I've got a MityVac vac gauge (bleeder) that I've never used.

besides unbolting the one on the car, Do I need to prep the new one?

Can I bleed just the Master Cylinder?

Thanks

My Brake Master Cylinder is shot...(brake falls slowly to floor). This is the dreaded internal leak; fortunately, the offending seal deteriorates slowly; at first, failure cannot be detected under normal circumstances...

besides unbolting the one on the car, Do I need to prep the new one? Assure that there is absolutely no rust on the shaft that enters the master cylinder..

Can I bleed just the Master Cylinder? Yes, this is "bench bleeding", IMO, a must do..

Thanks
Keep the cylinder seals as wet as possible and maintain the no-moisture quality in the brake fluid...One reason the fluid is changed every 60K miles.....
Best of success:cheesy:

Thanks earthworm, By bench bleeding...Do I just put the master cylinder in a vise...fill it with fresh brake fluid and then work the shaft slowly back and forth till no bubble show up in the fluid? Do I need to plug the two MC line ends?
