My automatic tranny won't go into reverse? It did so without any warning. I only have 86K miles on car and otherwise it shifts through all the forward gears and downshifts like new! HELP!!

Also, under the shifter lever, I noticed that the green and black wires were cut? What do they do?

Thanks,

MJ

Although the automatics are perhaps Saabs weakest link, you might just have a hydraulic problem that would improve with a fluid flush/change. If not, be careful...your tranny could be going south and you don't want to get stranded. have it checked out by a Pro before driving too much more. My 2 cents.

Just a couple of thoughts:

(1) Sudden loss of reverse on an otherwise healthy trans usually means you need to adjust the reverse band. The adjuster is on the outside of the trans, and instructions are in any decent shop manual (Haynes, Bentley).

(2) The wires you mentioned are probably for the little lightbulb that rides on the shifter near its base, and illuminates the PRND2L symbols at night. Hope this helps; keep us posted!
