So the other day I was driving home and only had one headlight which on dims was pretty much useless and on high beam was normal. So I figure headlight relay right? Well I just picked one up from a salvage yard and plugged it in... still no driver side headlight.

What else can I check?

Bingo.

They are dual filament as Gunnar alludes to. Mostly gone are the days when cars had separate high and low beam headlights; four total headlights on those big American gas guzzlers. Remember the days of sealed beam lights? The whole thing; reflector, lens, filament was a complete unit... and tossed into the rubbish bin when they were hosed.

Anyway, check the bulbs first. I've had too many experiences with burnt out low beams (but they're still half-good!).:(:cheesy:

You might want to check out the connector with a VOM to see if you have +12 VDC at the connector. The you can check the resistance of the bulb for continuety... Ron

Did you ever bother to smack the headlight control unit? It needs tough love.

But yeah, the smart thing to do would be to check the bulbs.
