My old amplifier setup was always 'on;' after my first business trip, I was dead. AAA came, jumped the car, and off I went. He did connect to (-), connect to ground if I recall.

But basic jumper cables... worked fine.

The battery died in a 2004 93ss, and we couldn't get it jump started, and the dealer says they can't be jump started. Has anyone successfully jump started? If so, how?
There may be some built in protection that activates when the voltage drops below a threshhold. I haven't heard of this on the 93.

There is a general recommendation to not jump start modern vehicles because voltage spikes may damage the many computers. Tow trucks with jumper setups have boosted voltage (~20 V) which makes them even riskier.

I haven't heard that this car is "unjumpable." If I were stuck with a dead battery, I would probably try jumping from the battery of a non-running car. The voltage of a running car is about 1.5-2 V higher, making any potential spikes that much higher.

I think the main thing to be aware of is the danger posed by the tow truck jump systems.

I was not aware of this! I feel lucky on the one jump and have to wonder this:

Has anyone been able to push-start their battery-dead Saab. (obviously this is a question for Manual drivers only...)

AAA tried for about an hour to jump my car. Even though the manual says the car can be jumped, a quick call to the dealer revealed that there was some sort of special connection (to the starter he mentioned) that would have to be made.

Not feeling comfortable with Mr. AAA doing this, I promptly had SAAB roadside assistance assist.

Crazy, huh, that our cars are such pains in the tailpipe when it comes to jumpstarting.

So did the Saab roadside assist actually get the car started? What exactly did they do to get it started? Or was it towed, which is what my dealer (Hunt Valley Saab, in Maryland) says must always be done with dead battery cars. But maybe roadside assist should carry new spare batteries with them.

I've never heard of a car that can't be jump started.

Though I feel lucky that the tow truck did not blast my electronics, he was a very cool fellow and a very regular, every day tow truck driver. He hooked it up and I started it up on the first turn. It was entirely straight-forward and regular...

I have never had trouble jump starting a car with a dead battery. I religiously referred to the manual when having the AAA guy attempt to jump the car. No luck. It was my dealer's belief that the only way to accomplish this task was to, in fact, tow the vehicle in, which is what SAAB roadside assistance did. What a waste of my time.

I did manage to get a new battery out of the deal, but I managed to loose about a half of a day waiting at the dealership.

I jumped mone OK also. There is low voltage protection built in to the car where if there is not enough juce to start it, the engile will not even try to turn over. You may need to hook up the cables and let the car run for a few minutes to build up a base charge in the battery. And it is always a good idea to turn off everything when you jump a car. Jump Start

Yes, last night my wife had her car jump started. It started right up and went immediately into "limp mode". She couldn't drive any faster the 30mph. The car had to be towed to the dealer today and have the computer reset. $90 plus towing. Either the kid that jumped it hooked up the cables in the wrong sequence or it's just another crappy feature of the most troublesome car we've ever had. Who makes the electrical system on this thing, Lucas?

I better stop before I begin ranting on the faded door handles.

I had to jump start mine a couple of weekends ago and it took about 20 minutes or so to build up a charge. I drove it immediately to the dealership and had them change the battery. Luckily, I haven't experienced any difficulties with radio, etc.

SAAB Roadside Service Did

With my 2003 2.0T, SAAB Roadside service would not jump start my car, and towed it to a local dealership. Actually, when the battery died, my car went into some anti-theft mode. Two weeks ago my 2006 Aero battery (and some related item) died, and I was jump started by SAAB Roadside service two days in a row. No problem.
