I'm about to lose it. I have been trying to get this to work for days now and it just won't. I bought a clone Tech 2 off of AliExpress, and for the most part it seems to work great. I can read and clear codes and store vin data. It also communicates with my PC but when it comes to security access it just won't work no matter what I do. I'm using a Windows 7 32-bit Ultimate VM with GlobalTis installed on it (downloaded from this forum). I have Java 6 update 12 installed on the VM. From what I can tell, I've done everything properly. Every time I go to download security access the bar gets about three quarters of the way through and then errors out simply just saying "Error Occurred!". Meanwhile the Tech 2 just gets stuck on the "reading information from rs232" screen. I'd like to also note I'm using the Tripplite USB to Serial adapter everyone says to use. I have the correct com port selected under the settings menu. The only slightly weird thing happening with my GlobalTis is that it gives me a message on boot up with the code E4252 saying that there are plugins missing. When I try and click on the java web start link it provides, it just says that the file cannot be found. I've downloaded the VIN data off of my car ('07 9-3 Aero SC) and it's stored in the Tech 2. If anyone has any idea of what my problem might be or how I could fix this, please let me know ASAP. Thanks.

Another thing, my Tech 2 says it is running on version 148.000 while GlobalTis loads with 146.000. Would this be the source of the problem? Or do the versions have nothing to do with each other.

I wish I could have helped.

I do think the problem is Java related. Possibly uninstall and re-install?

You could also try to install TIS2000. There is a sticky in the forum and it is a quick and easy install.

Good luck.

When you try to use pass thru, does it work?
If yes, what MY your car is?
If no, you have bad serial cable.

146.000 cover up to 2010, 148.000 cover up to 2012.

Check your serial to RJ45 (Ethernet) adapter. Mine had some of the pins pushed in and it caused issues similar to what you describe.
After opening the adapter and pushing the pins forward I didn't have an issue.

Just re did everything on XP and it's still not working. The Tech 2 is on version 148.000 while GlobalTIS is on version 146.000. The car is MY2007.

Change serial cable.
I've changed pretty much every cable out on this thing and the same result still happens. The tech 2 literally shows that it's going into download mode, and then just gets stuck on that screen. So I'm just going to assume the one I bought is a dud. Extremely infuriating.

Did your Tech 2 come with a serial test cable (it's an Ethernet with a cable in a loop)? You can use that to test the Tech 2 serial cable.
To do this, insert the test adapter and:
  • F2, Tool Options
  • F0, Tech 2 self test
  • F3, selectable main PCB
  • F2, RS-232 loopback

If that passes, it's likely the Windows client VM or hypervisor. What hypervisor are you running?

Sorry for the late response. I have been using OracleVM. Also, It doesn't look like my tech 2 came with the tester cable.
