Im curious what other people have experienced with changing or flushing their gearbox fluid. Ive read here, saabcentral, saabnet, all over google and the consensus is MTF006 is the new updated oil. But ive also read some posts where people dont like this stuff. Has anyone had issues after changing to this stuff? My car shifts fine, but when moving forward in gear it just seems 'clunky' or just seems much more noise coming from the tranny especially in 1-3. Im wondering if anyone else has experienced this when switching to this synthetic new oil. Before I get the obligatory answer of "well your tranny is bad or it was done wrong" That is not the case. It was rebuilt and the only thing I am concerned with is before the change there was less 'noise' and after new fluid its seemed to gotten louder. Anyone else have this issue?

Other oil options are:

Pennzoil syncromesh
Redline MTL
Royal purple Syncromax

Did you do the proper flush when you installed the 0063 ?

I believe a 2001 should have already had 0063 in there, but the rebuilder could have used something else.

Yes, the proper flush was done. Ran through 3 times or whatever the procedure is. I guess I am just thinking that with all the gunk and stuff in there prior it was keeping things quiet and when flushed with clean fluid now I am starting to hear more mechanical noise. Or maybe it is just my mind playing tricks on me and it isnt really anything. Who knows...

When I changed to MTF0063 is got more noisey ( gear whine) when cold but shifts better than anything else I've tried including Redline MTF and on my box eliminated an occasional sticky 4th gear. I've heard rumour that it is infact ATF and optimised for high temperature / high load use hence why it may sound less than perfect when cold? Flushing is definatley needed as when I was disposing of the old flushed ( mixed oil ) and it was standing in a semi transparent container it had clearly seperated out.

Thanks to you both. Maybe Ill try that Pennsoil it its thicker. With 200K on the clock its certainly not a tight gearbox anymore. But... Ive also read bad things about Pennsoil on (bobistheoilguy) forum. How it breaks down...etc. I gues maybe it is like I said, since I cleared out the junk maybe Im just hearing more mechanical movement. Or like I said...In my head.. Its kind of one of those things that I think I hear it one time, and every time after that I seem to 'look' for the sound.

The Pennzoil motor oil is sh!t, But the gearbox oil great stuff. I know of a Saab gearbox specialist that highly recommends the Pennzoil product.

I use Royal purple Sycromax myself. Only because I can't get the Pennzoil product here in Oz.

I do not think that this transmission was properly "rebuilt"
"noise"
Bananas may quiet things to an extent.:cheesy::cry:
its MTF-0063, probably the same fluid as the others.

After it was "rebuilt" it ran for over 30K miles with no issues. Guess I should reiterate...

It was rebuilt some time ago. Has ran fine. After the flush was done, I just noticed more noise is all.
