Guys,

dont know whether uve expericened this but here goes,

16v LPT lucas EMS

started the car up in the morning.. idling was ****ty.. soundded like it has race cams. with black smoke puffing out.

press on the throttle, more black smoke & check engine light comes on.. and revs held at 2k rpm. funny. drove it a bit.. stopped the car then idle from 2k went down to normal rpm.

when the cars hot, start it up again.. the cars behaving fine. but after a 12 hour interval, car reacts the same again like in the morning. guess when its cold it does that. just happend today.

any ideas whats wrong?

cheers,

Andrew

Seems to me like a problem with the cold-start system; it's running over-rich.

Too much fuel or too little air is getting into the intake manifold. Check the cold-start temperature sensor and the air valve.

Check engine light coming on would mean a malfunction of one of the EMS components. The EMS is probably going into limp-home mode, causing the car to run rich. For a start, I'd remove all the connectors for the sensors and AMM and give them a squirt of contact cleaner.

yeah shan.. will try that as well. but suspect its the engine temp sensor as that leads to fuel enrichment on startup connected to ECU.
