i have a 1989 saab turbo
we have this problem with it sometimes when you are driving the car just stops running tried to pop out the clutch and nothing but if you let the car sit of an hour or so it will start right up and will run for a while. sometimes it will run fine you turn it off and try to start it up it wont start.
last time it did this i wne to the cap pulled a spark wire off and had spark so i went under the car to the gas tank and hit it a few times and it started right up.i had someone check the fuel pressure and at the time it was fine
can anyone give me an idea where to go from here?
thank you

Sounds like an ECU problem. my dad and i have 3-4 1989 900's and i've had 3 of them die on me........3 different cars at various miles, love how it'd always happen to me!

They seem to want to start acting up between 175K and 225K. You best bet is find one on ebay because they go for like $25-50, a new one goes for $400  .

Once you find one to replace your current flakey one, I'd keep looking for another to carry with you (be sure to test it for a week) because they are easy to swap out (about 10min) but if you don't have it with ya then your stuck.

Also if you have a 900 non-turbo you only have 1 option of ECU's that will work and if you have a 900turbo there are 2. If you search for my username and "ecu's" or "not starting" I have replied to a few ppl naming the bosch #'s that work with what model.

91-93's have the "better" ECU's it's not very common on those cars, but it does happen from time to time...
The LH 2.4 and 2.4.2 has always been a bit twitchey about how they turn on the fuel pumps, that's what generally goes bad- the ECU will just stop turning on the fuel pump or randomly turn them off!

well as far as I know, all the T8's used K-jetronic / CIS injection. I don't think I have ever seen one of those fail. They stopped selling the 8 valve turbos in the US in 1984, na/ 8 valves in 1988, and even then, they only came in "base model" Saab 900 cars. 900-S after 1986 they all had 16 valve engines. in 1985 the only way you could get a 16 valve engine was if it had a turbo :cheesy:

this only goes for US spec cars. apparently you guys could get an 8 valve turbos years after they had stopped selling them in the US. Alternatively we got 2.1 liter saab 900’s from 91-93 while you got the LPT’s. I will never understand why saab sold so many model variants all over the world, apparently discontinuing certain models some places while continuing to sell them in others for 5+ years! all this while producing models (like the LPT) that they didn't bother to sell at all in most markets.
