The top mount at the front is rubber - forces applied to the wheel like cornering or bumps in the road will cause this to deflect and change the wheel geometry. Any upgrades in this part? There is a ring bearing that sits under this to alow the spring seat to rotate when you steer - is this a set of ball bearings in a race or just 2 sliding rings? Does it get sticky/dry etc and hinder steering? I ask because when I removed my top washers and nuts to inspect the rubber bushings I sprayed some WD40 down the threaded bit and after reassembly the steering seemed to feel lighter and also seemed more keen on recentering itself on the motorway.

The bearings are easy to take apart, so you can clean them and add some fresh grease if you want to.

Thanks - that explains a lot. I must be imagining things regarding the steering unless retorquing the top nuts did anything.
