I have 2002 9-5 Sport Wagon Auto Transm. with 19500 Miles.
My daily driving routine mostly highway based

I serviced my car today, and SAAB mechanic told me that I haveto replace Front Brake pads and rotors ! ($475)

My question is : Is this Normal ?

P.S.

With city driving (and a lot of braking) on m V6 2002 Camry i replaced my pads after 36,000 miles ! (no rotors)???

Hi and welcome to Saabcentral.
This is not an un-common problem :( But for the rotors (disks) to need replacing is a bit suprising  the earliest I've heard them to need replacing before is around the 40,000 mile area.
Might be worth a second opinion on the state of your Rotors/Disks

Pads i'd say is reasonable.... maybe around 24-30k mark, depending on how hard you are on brakes! but your dealer obviously won't let you go without advising you to replace..
But disks???
I seem to read a lot about US dealers being disk replacement happy!
According to my cars comprehensive history printout, the front disks were original when I got the car... I replaced them at 92k miles 8)

brake replacement

Do your brakes shutter or vibrate?

What justification is the dealer giving you for replacing?

Worst case scenario...have him replace the pads and turn the rotors.

If you have any mechanical ability, you can do the job yourself and save his $75/hour labor.
