My '08 9-3 has a vacuum leak and I was going to try and figure out which hose exactly it is. I'm pretty sure I know which one it is but when I tried to take it off it didn't want to budge. I've never changed them so they are pretty old, has anyone else had a hard time taking theirs off? If so how did you get around that, just cut the hose or do I need to hit the weights some more?

I can hear it sucking in air when I have the hood up idling plus the RPMs will drop off quickly when I push in the clutch from the loss of pressure. Not always, its particularly bad in traffic when I build pressure quickly then push in the clutch. I haven't tried the starter fluid trick to find out exactly where it is but when I mess with a certain hose the pitch of the noise changes depending on how close it is to certain things around it.
vacc leak
use an x-acto knife or razor and cut a one inch slice at the end of the hose. be careful as some of the vacc, hose nipples are plastic and will snap if too much force is used. take the old hose to parts store and match it up if hose is just a straight length. if curved or angles , order new one. seems you know which hose is bad, that's 90 % of the battle. good luck

Since it is super easy to change......I'd start with all the 4mm ID standard vac lines. You need 7-8 feet but I would get a standard 10 foot piece a lot of people switched to silicone for this and it can be had for less than $10. Remove one....cut to size and replace.....and so on. Takes about half hour-hour. It has a decent chance of solving your issue and at the very least it takes the tubing off the table.
There is also the notorious elbow by the oil dipstick. It is hard to visually inspect while on the car and has been a source for numerous vacuum leaks on the forum.....I think people take it off and source a replacement at the auto parts store.

" takes about 30 min. " NO WAY. about 1 hour to replace 3-4 feet of 4mm silicon hose, did not even try one nipple under a radiator hose, so as not to spill Dexcool, to say nothing of several sections that must be reached from under the car. perhaps 2 hours total, if car is on a lift.

Perhaps it pays to have small hands/wrists.....I didn't have many issues with the 4 houses in the back by the turbo and the 4 houses in the front under the engine cover.

For the vacuum system all I have is the standard 4mm silicone vacuum line. I do have the large turbo hoses but that doesn't sound like what you are talking about. If you are looking for the dipstick elbow many people source a rubber version at any auto parts store (generic rubber elbow not a saab part). it looks like there are 3-4 hoses that are the same size off the turbo and they are not 2.5 inches
am I wrong?
