So I went to my local Saab specialist for my 1999 9-3S, and said I need a new Waterpump and thermostat. He said he'll also change my sparkplugs for free and check my belts/pullies for any other problems becuase he said if the waterpump is going, then something else could be wrong.

Parts and lobor all together will be a total of $661.xx. Is this a fair price to pay? I also think he said the work will be under warranty.

I did a water pump kit on a 9-3 a while back for $150 parts $100 labor, a recent thermostat was $20 parts $70 labor with a radiator flush. So total for the two was $340 about half your price.

Run and don't look back. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over par.

The repairs should cost you about half at most other shops. A lot less if you do the work yourself too. Not always an option, I know

When they offer free stuff be wary especially if it's followed by I'll check other stuff for free. That always means I'll be changing those so pay up sucker! There's no free lunch; Mechanics don't do free stuff man! You should know that ;)

That one will work but you don't need the entire assembly. Just replacing the top half will solve the problem. I got a waterpump for my wife's 1998 900SE 2.0T from NAPA for $62. They got it in 24hrs at my local shop. P.S. I always have great luck haggling prices at NAPA (company owned shops).

They actually gave me a new unit for this price (the one shown is remanufactured.)

This is the right one, you will just replace the top halve of the pump. It comes apart like a clam shell. The new gasket is included. I changed it myself in about 3hrs. total. All you have to do is remove the PS pump, airbox and serpentine belt. Then remove the turbo coolant line on the back of the WP and pull the waterpump out.
