does anyone know any websites that offer sound clips of exhausts? I am wanting to buy an exhaust system for my '04 vert, but want to hear how it will sound before i make any decisions on which on i want to buy. Thanks in advance

I think it'd be near-impossible to do what you're asking. Exhuast sound is a result of the motor, the muffler, and everything inbetween. Given the number of cars and exhaust options available, it'd be a daunting task.

FWIW, I recall hearing an audio clip of a Magnaflow (?) that someone here had posted not too long ago. Unfortunately not many manufacturers make kits specifically for the 9-3.

I did the loud exhaust thing on my motorcycle... never again. It gets annoying to me and to my neighbors and it attracts attention from the police.

i guess thats what i am asking for.-- something car specific, if that someone has already done, that can post it for me. i don't want anything loud, which is why i don't want to buy before hearing one. like you said, there are only a couple of options as far as what i can go with for an '04 vert, but id like to hear the magnaflow, bsr, and i think abbott racing has one. last thing i want is my saab sounding like a ricer, or a muscle car. i want something that sounds good.

From what I can recall, I didn't like the sound of the Magnaflow. It was too loud (for a Saab) and had a bit of a hollow sound, maybe the result of the turbo. If I were the original poster, I'd stash the $200 or so that it'd cost for a new muffler/exhaust into a PPC fund. A stage 1 will be fine without a new exhaust. If you go for a more complete performance tuning scheme, than a high-flow exhaust is necessary, not for the sound but for the performance increase.

Although it's comparing apples to oranges, I remember when I worked as a service writer for a Harley-Davidson dealership. Stock Harleys are actually pretty quiet bikes, but they sound kinda lame. So everyone wants a new exhaust, or at least some slip-ons. And people would cheap out and not go for an EFI remap or jet kit and the bike would run *horribly*. Or they'd be all tough and get straight pipes which also run poorly except at WOT.

The Saab has enough noise intruding into the cabin because of the stock tires. I think adding a louder exhaust would make it worse and most aftermarket exhausts are louder, unfortunately.

just look at it this way. the louder exhaust drowns out the factory tires! in all seriousness, its obviously user preference. i personally dont mind a loud exhaust. in fact its not that loud all of the time. mainly when you get on it. obviously its louder than stock, but..i dont care. half the time with the stereo on, you cant even hear the exhaust.

I also had about 5 wav files recorded on my site for the magnaflow and it sounds DAM* good (In My *NOT SO* Humble Opinion)!!

When I am back in my home I will try and post it up again so you can all decide... like gunner said its really Not that loud unless you are out to have some fun. Of course I run my car pretty hard every day for atleast 5 minutes.. makes the day that much better and nothing can make me smile bigger than hopping in my SS on the way to work and hearing that rumble when I crank and go.

If you want it hush hush I just think thats boring.. this car is not boring.
