You can get the navigation installation instructions here:
http://www.saabcentral.com/users/viscouse/docs/12801443_Navigation.pdf

You need much more that just those couple parts.
Small summary is ES3 faceplate, wire hanresses, f/o harnesses, DVD player, telematics box, possibly a new sharkfin.
To top it off, my parts guy could not locate any of the Navi kits listed in the instructions.

Wow - that is a bit more than I thought.

Whats with the DVD player? Could you use a DVD based road atlas for Nav? If so, why would the sharkfin need to be replaced? Or is this just a typical DVD player and the ES3 screen capible of displaying movies?

If I could use DVD based atlas rather than requiring satellite link (and subscription), that would be my prefered route. I wouldnt mind being 'off line' and buying an updated DVD atlas every year or so.

I noticed there were part numbers for the ES3 head unit on your website, could I ask my dealer to order the ES3 and required harnesses? (never mind, if your parts guy cant find them chances are my dealer wont either - maybe in time Saab will offer a retrofit kit for the US?)

Thanks for the feedback Viscouse!

The DVD player is for the DVD-based maps. You can't play vids on it.
The sharkfin needs to have a GPS antenna in it (your probably only has a cell antenna in it, like mine).

There's a lot involved, and I'm just beginning to understand it all. I'll have some more documents later tonight to post, but suffice to say, I'm being ridiculed by the 3 local parts departments I keep calling. One just ended up printing a couple of pages of parts, said "good luck buddy", and went in back where he burst into peals of laughter.
There are 41 different EHUs alone to pick from, and only 1 will work for you.
The DVD player alone is $1,133.00.

I've been thinking about the Tomtom go system after hearning many good reviews about it. But in the end, the fanciest brick stuck the dash is still a brick stuck to the dash. it's the same as the best high-quality wired FM modulator being never better than aux-in.
I did a price list some time ago & it ended up being ridiculously high, but I will try to figure it out just as a personal challenge. Don't hold your breath though.

MY ideal solution would be to have a Tomtom go in the space for the CD player on a motorized drawer flip-up mount.

I agree about the whole brick on the dash thing.

But it looks like this item will be downgraded from my wish list to my wishfull thinking list. $1100+ for the DVD player alone is out of the question.

I am eyeballing the AWD v6 93 set for release in 2008 as the eventual successor to my current car. I suppose I will just wait until then for the integrated NAV

Here are 2 different parts lists. One is for the "accessory" kit, which apparantly isn't for US or Canada (great help that is, but it details the different components that make up the system). The other is a parts list right from the dealer.

There's much cross referencing to be done, and I'm beginning to think that if you have a GSM box in your trunk, it also has navi so you don't need another one.

Have at it:

Following on from the "no CD player" thread earlier this week, I wonder whether you could fit one of the 1 DIN navigation systems (I think panasonic and Alpine do these amongst others). These have a nice 7" slide out screen and are around the $1300 mark - wouldn't be quite as neat as the Saab system, but would be a much simpler install and give all the same functionality.

I took a picture of the box label I have in my car. I have onstar. It clarifies 1 thing, and raises another question (such is the case in dealing with Saabs it seems).

If you look at the middle of the picture, it shows an overview of the plugs. There are 3: phone primary, GPS antenna, and MOST/wires. I have physical connections in all 3, which makes sense (I think). Isn't one of the features of Onstar to be able to locate your car in the event of theft?
Conclusion: I think I have the proper antenna & antenna cable, so I don't have to buy/install those.

If you look also at the part number (12803274), it's not in any of the lists I published earlier.

My parts guy tells me the following:
12803274 (my box)
- is a valid part number
- can't be ordered, as it can only be ordered if another is sent back (probably due to traceability) to Autocraft (Electronics?)
- not in the regular catalog of parts (which is why it's not on any list)
- is $862

It gets better. We find out the box that I should be using for my 2003 if I want navigation is 12758690. Of that we see:
-is a valid part number
-can't order it (but doesn't know why)
-can't get a price.
