Wife reported weird acceleration / surging on freeway followed by barely running on the streets. Fortunately, this happened at the very end of her trip. When I got there, I started the engine and it immediately raced to 5000+ rpms before I killed it. Once or twice more, same thing. Then a few starts later and the engine won't keep running. Any ideas?

Sounds like somethings wrong with your throttle body and its potentially jamming open/closed.
Ive had a similar problem on a non-saab car caused by a faulty throttle body, makes it interesting in an automatic when its revving to redline with you trying to brake
I think some people have cleaned theres before.
