I've been going through the most ridiculous pursuit of engine oil research. There are SO many choices and even more opinions. But frankly I can’t seem to find an absolute.

Some examples are:
Motul 300v Synthetic – Expensive but good.
Repsol Synthetic – No opinions yet.
Mobil 1 Synthetic – Seems largely liked.
AMSOIL – Seems really good but can't get turned off by pushy sales people.

So what are your likes?

For what Saab?

Synthetic with A3/B3 or B4 rating from a reputable manufacturer will almost certainly be fine.

That is assuming that you have the right viscosity, and maybe any other requirements like Dexos if they are still current.

There is a Real correlation Between the Cost of a Used Vehicle. And the new owners insistence on using the V Best available oil.
Lower the value of the vehicle the higher the desire for the best of oils.
Suppose it's the absurd notion that "good' oil will magically fix years of No oil changes.

I've been using Rotella 15/40w in my Saabs since 1984 with ~3000 miles between oil and filter changes.
With Zero oil related issues.

Been using Shell Rotella T6 0W-40 (+ Mann filters) with no issues in my last 3 Saabs (2011 9-3X; 2008 9-3 Aero XWD SS; 2006 9-5 Aero Wagon). Expensive, so I look for it on sale.
