Ok, I've got a 1996 Saab 9000 turbo. On the right front, maybe six inches behind the headlight is a button switch that apparently is depressed when the hood is closed.

First thought -- engine compartment light switch, but I don't have said light, or I can't find it.....

Thoughts?

Maybe you mean on the LH side - (automotive L&R are always expressed as looking forward). If so, it's the "hood open" switch - one of the sensors that activates the anti-theft alarm.

The function of these switches are generally not something people inquire about.

The fact that you are interested in it at all, kinda makes me wonder - maybe this is the cause of your nuisance alarm problem.
