Hello all, thank you so much to everyone who has already posted on this issue. Everything pointed toward the "ABS module", until this morning.

A little background (some may be irrelevant):

3 weeks ago the front left foglight fell fell out. I took the casing off and tie wrapped the wires.

3 nights ago I was attempting to change the front left headlight bulb (it was not working), after 15 mins of the car's lights being on without the engine running, the car died. I jumped it and it worked fine. Miraculously the front left headlight started working, hadn't changed the bulb yet. (coincidence?)

Yesterday I was driving at highway speeds, it was very rainy, had cruise control on, and all of a sudden the traction, ABS, E-Brake, and i think other lights came on, Also the speedometer was stuck at 0. These lights would go off, come back on, go off etc. Eventually, after a few rides, these lights stayed on permanently.

This morning I went out to check on the car and only the rectangular odd shaped light is on. I think this is check engine?

Anyways, does anyone have any ideas? I was certain last night that I would need to have my ABS module refurbished, but after speaking to my mechanic he is leaning more toward the alternator.

Update: I checked the codes tonight and only a "manufacturer controlled transmission" came up. Unfortunatly, when I checked none of the warning lights were on. Over the past few days they have been coming on and off. Sometimes just the check engine and other times all lights.

I'm stumped and frustrated...any ideas??

Don't want to sound like your Dad or other parental figures... But since this mystery began with your Fog light have you checked the wiring in that area? Most of your later issues seem exactly like my ABS module before I replaced it (not sure about the code though). The only thing that comes to mind is that perhaps you've grounded something when you tie wrapped those wires. Oh I do love a good mystery.

That Manufacture specific code would have had a P code! what is it?

The mystery unravels when we have more information. Also not 100% on the 9-5 since I just acquired one a month ago... but my NG900 did the same thing, Warning light, ABS light and speedo dropped... it ended up being a wheel speed sensor. and if the sensor is intermittent, your warning will go off, speedo will work, abs is fine, until the problem comes back. I'm very curious on this. next time this acts up, get it scanned right away with the fault present.

Your speedo being stuck at zero is pointed to the wheel speedo sensors which also drive your ABS module or the ABS module itself. check all connections.

same problem

So I just had the same thing happen to my 2000 9-5 wagon SE, except I wasn't messing with a light or a headlight or anything. the car has been in perfect working condition. the one thing that is different is that my speedo kept working, but my warning lights come on and off randomly. and now are staying on.

I agree with all the post everyone one is a potential culprit. I would do the following.
1) Check out the wires you wrapped up from the fog light and make double sure that none of them are touching and shorting out.
2) Check the wiring harness going to the trunk those wires frequently crack and short out all kinds of stuff. I had a 9000 where the wires broke and shorted out the complete right side of the car. I mean every light on the right side was just gone the left side worked perfectly. Go figure. I have also had to fix this same problem with 3 1999 9-5s that I own.
3) I replaced the ABS module on my 2000 9-3 which had all the same lights on as yours and no Speed O and it fixed my problems. They are very pricey new so I got a used for 150.00 and it has worked perfect for a year now. They are very easy to do yourself even if you are chimp with a wrench.:cheesy: So spend your money on the part and put it on yourself.

Good luck hope you find it!!

I think you have two unrelated problems
1 - orange relay (try a search)
2 - ABS module failure. BBA reman is the best option here... There is the possibility of the wheel sensor being out. The difference may be worth a trip to a Mechanic with a Tech II to tell you whether the sensor or the module is bad...
