Hi Saabcentral!

My 1996 Saab Convertible has recently developed a problem where the driver's side door will not open with the key, central locking or using the tab inside the car. The passenger side door still reponds to the central locking mechanism, allowing me to get into the car using the passenger side door. I did a search on the forums hear and saw there were numerous problems related to door locking mechanisms but couldnt find a definitive solution for my problem. Saab Dealer has told me that even if they get it open they will not guarantee that the interior trim will not be damaged extensively.

Any suggestions?

As I see it, the door lock mechanism must really be in bad shape.

The key operates a manual lock and a micro-switch which unlocks the others doors....

So the door closing and latching must have been messed up as well, and this is where I believe the problem is....
Convertible body flex helps not..
An idea, weird of course....Use the jack to elevate the car and then see if the door opens....
Study p 73,74 in the manual.... There is a deadlock feature.
