Hello,

I've been reading the various threads on locking system problems, but I wonder if you who have more expertise might offer an opinion. I have a '97 9000CSE with about 189,500 miles. I'm the original owner and I really love this car -- they just don't make them like this any more!

I've been suffering with lock system problems for about six months now: first one door wouldn't lock/unlock, then I had problems with intermittent operation -- sometimes the remaining three doors would lock, sometimes not -- it seemed to me that if I went over some unusually rough roads the state of the lock system would flip between working to not working.

I just returned from a weeklong trip by airplane during which time my car was parked at the airport. When I operated the driver's side door lock -- voila! they all worked, including the one that had failed long ago. My delight lasted about two days, when nothing worked again. I did my obligatory check of the 15A fuse and found it blown. Since then I have replaced the fuse several times with this result: the locking system works once and then blows the fuse.

Any suggestions or opinions? If I can avoid an expensive trip to the car doctor that would be great.

Not likely that you will be avoiding an expensive trip.
Controller could be toasted ( they often work after a fashion when damaged) OR one of the Actuators has given up the ghost... Likely.. But It might have damaged the Controller.. Certainly retrying it repeatedly will!... and new ones are surprisingly Expensive.
This is a medium dificulty DIY job or a mid to high 3 digit cheque.

I have the same problem. One day my automatic locks will work the next... the don't. Recently they stopped working completely, and the gas tank won't open either. I figured how to open the gas tank, but am I having a connection problem?
