Does the trunk suppose to pop up by itself when I press the trunk release button on my door. I have a 97' 900 SE Convertible...

No.. it will unlock, but it won't pop up by itself.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought SAAB may have put in a motorised boot/trunk opening mechanism. You have to admit it does make some interesting noises when you remote unlock it. Various clicks and whirrings. Took me a week to realise there is no mechanism connected to the hinge or pipes connected to the hydraulic struts.

Still always a good laugh with people who don't know.

Its probably a good thing it doesn't. I've hit my spoiler on the garage door before and that wasn't with any momentum

Agreed, that hatch has some height when fully opened. I can tell the previous owner of my Saab forgot that a few times.
