Went ahead and finished this quick job on my '97 900SE.

Haven't owned the car more than a month, but I thought this would be my first mod. $10 for the filter, $1.29 for the cap plug off.

TOTAL COST - $11.29

Do you get any warning lights come on? I considered this mod, but a real car savvy friend of mine recommended I dont because he said it looks like the excess pressure to be blown off, is actually directed back as an intake again (considering that air has already been filtered, this makes sense)

So he continued to say if I change that, the ECU is gonna notice a difference and send me warnings.

Again, my friend is not god and doesnt know everything, thats why Im asking you. My friends advice is the main thing stopping me from doing what you did, so any feedback from you would be appreciated! :)

Haven't thrown any warnings and noticed any difference in the way the car operates. Venting to the atmosphere is downright awesome.

Thats good to hear, so for this mod you basically just cut that hose out.

Then plugged where the hose origninally connected to, and then put an air filter on the end of the hose where the excess pressure blows out, correct?

Can I ask what the point of that air filter on the end is? If only air would be blowing out this hose it doesnt make a ton of sense to me, but maybe you have a good reason.

Can you actually hear as the pressure is released now, compared to before? I was disappointed to find my stock turbo to be rather quiet on these cars.

You do not have to cut the hose, simply remove it.

The point of the air filter is to keep dust particles from entering back into the BOV.

You can definitely hear the pressure of the air coming out now and it makes a nice swoosh sound now. Sounds like an aftermarket BOV for sure.

Why is the filter necessary? Where did you get it from?

Red head = T5 = blowoff valve no problemo :D
Black head = T7 = has airmass meter = problem

You do need the filter, air does go that way when coasting or at idle. I think it's a pocket bike intake filter or advertised as a breather filter for older cars.

You wouldn't need a filter with a twin piston dump valve.

ya the turbos are very quiet stock so if you want to really hear your turbo my suggestion is to remove the turbo silencer and put on an intake
it makes a HUGE difference
(also that forge twin piston bov will get you that nice pssshh sound too :D)
that whole set up just looks kinda sketchy too me that's why i did what mostly everyone else does

Which model do you have? As El Cid mentioned, removing the silencer (bout a 15 minute job), modifying the intake, and removing the insulation on the hood all make a very noticeable difference in sound.

I have a 1995, 900 turbo SE. Maybe you can link me to a guide on removing the silencer? Silly sweds making us do extra work just to hear our turbo...
