Guys, I bought this car a few months ago, have put maybe 8,000 miles on it already. At 115k now. I noticed a strange smell when it starts on really cold days. Popped the antifreeze cap off and this is what I have found. What would cause this?? Why are these two hoses here and not connected to anything?? What are some tests I can do to learn more? Thanks in advance guys…

If your mechanic applies that much grease to something like the coolant cap I'd find a new one... I wonder how much grease slings onto the pads/rotors after he does a brake job

Can't say I've ever seen that ether.
is it possible that your mechanic is old school and used to metal caps, possibly a trick in inclement weather states or salty as hell.
depending on how mechanically inclined you are you should start learning some DIY skills, several reasons, because you might to fix something on the road; it is a saab, it will do something stupid.
It will save you time and money & you might have fun doing it.
