Hi all,

I start taking one of my half-shafts apart to replace a torn boot on my '03 9-5 MTX, but I can't for the life me of figure out how to separate the inner CV housing (so, trans-side) from the half-shaft. It appears to be the original, OEM shaft.

There is a lip around the housing that appears to hold the bearing assembly captive in the housing. The lip ring appears to be a stamped piece that's pressed on to the rest of the cast housing. When I looked up the part on eeuroparts, the image shows the design has changed and it looks like the joint should slide right apart once the boot is removed.

Am I correct in assuming this piece is pressed on and the shaft can't be separated without removing that first? I'm toying with the idea of just bending it or dremeling some slots to slide the bearing tripod out. Shouldn't have a functional impact if I do.

Thanks.

Yes, the stamped piece has to come out, but it's just there for initial assembly. You can destroy it when you take it off, and not having it on there won't affect anything. I used a Dremel tool to cut a slit in mine so I could pop out off.

Good to know, thank you! I ended up just bending the lip out of the way and hammering it roughly back into shape afterwards. If I haveto do the other side, I'll just remove it altogether.
