Hi all,

My gf's 1992 900 Turbo sedan normally works fine. I've worked on enough of these to be suspicious of the miles and miles of wire in that thing though, and finally it's thrown me a curveball. :(

Today the cruise control, turn signals, and tachometer all stopped functioning. It's possible that some other systems are down that I'm unaware of... but the car still runs and drives normally.

Here is the results of my investigation so far:

-no fuses out
-dash turn signal indicators do not work, actual turn signal lights do not work, but the drivers side "cornering light" does work.
-switch feels normal and cancels as normal
-cruise does not seem to have power at all... dash light doesn't come on and it doesn't work at all... previously this system has worked perfectly

I started digging around under the dash, looking for the flasher relay but I couldn't get to it (I'm 6'4" and it's a chore to get under there... I'm sort of familiar with the region having replaced the brake light switch TWICE is as many years)

In my perusal of the Cruise, Turn Signal, and Instrument wiring diagrams, I notice that all three systems share a ground point at G8 which is "behind the instrument panel, on the left". I can't find it at all.

So, anybody have any ideas? Anybody know where G8 ground point is, more exactly? A good method for retrieving the flasher relay?

Thanks in advance,

nevermind! Found it! Fixed it!

Thanks all (except the Saab tech writer who named it the "Ignition Lock Relay")

I would've gone with "Apparent Horde of Electrical Gremlins Relay"

Any other great ideas for naming this relay?

she sent me this picture of the burned relay... definitely the problem. Scary thing is, someone had replaced it with a 70-amp one. I'm not sure if that's the norm for the 1992 Turbo... I'm sure glad nothing overloaded.
Nice Dinah, crap relay. What's wrong with the name "Ignition Lock Relay"? It does what it says on the tin.

Where does this control freak of a relay reside anyway?

That "burned relay" is likely to have left behind burned connector in the relay socket of the fuse box.........and possibly burned wire or two.
I would be lifting fuse/socket base and inspecting the wires under that socket.

I was thinking the same thing as well, though it appears it may not yet have existed on my '85.
Definitely was on the 86 I had.......let my wife down big time.
Copped a ticket over it at the time when she "failed to indicate"......patrol cop didn't want to know about it............just here's your ticket.
Melted plastic, cooked wire insulation, burnt blade receptacles.....
