i can turn on the cruise control but i can't set it.

my local specialist tells me all the relevant switches are functioning but they are unsure why the system doesn't work. they haeve used the tech 2.

the next step is a change of ecm but thats costly as it may not be that at fault.

help please, Gav.

Been there, got the T-shirt! :cheesy:

If it's a saloon I'll bet that if you expose the wiring going to the boot lid, you'll find one or more wires are damaged. You're looking for the flexible wiring on the left as you lift the lid, right by the hinge.

Common fault and it causes all sorts of strange symptoms - blown bulb warnings, lights staying on after the car is shut down and the cuise fault are what I experienced.

Something from my 9-3 days that may be of help if yours is a manual gearbox... The switch to turn off the cruise when the clutch pedal is pressed was not being fully depressed by the clutch pedal arm. If it's a stick shift, try switching on the cruise control, lift the clutch pedal with your foot, and then try to engage the cruise control. For me the fix was a small piece of self-adhesive furniture pad attached at just the right place on the clutch pedal arm...

Best of luck

had a look at the boot lid wiring and yes there was a black wire that was broken. i also had problems with the lights staying on! i have repaired it and the cruise worked on a brief test run.

The alarm still says it need a service though and the siren has been changed!

Thanks for your help, Gav.

I am having the same problem with my 2003 9.5 linear...any suggestions on how to fix? I have only owned a saab for a couple of months so I'm still trying to figure out all the terminology. I took my car into the dealer and they wanted to replace the ECM for $1K...I said no thanks. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I had this problem a couple of years back, and replaced the stalk. No problems since. (NB Mine is an estate/station wagon/ combi/ shooting break, or whatever you deign to name it.)
