I have found that my Driver side courtesy light at the bottom of the door works only when the passenger door is open already.

The foot light illuminating the pedals always works on both sides as it should with either / both doors open.

The Saab is a 9-3 2003 Arc, with the Driver side on the right (if facing the steering wheel inside the car).

Much thanks to anyone who can help me get the courtesy light working so I can miss puddles and bodies in the gutter as I park without opening the passenger door!

I believe the courtesy lights are controlled by the door lock/latch modules. Try resetting the door electronics by unplugging the harness connector in the crease of the door by the hinges then reseat it.

Thanks for your reply - I should have added my Driver side door lock only works manually and reports an SID message on start up if locked.

The lock functions - but not when prompted remotely nor does it lock centrally other doors if pressed down manually.

Its certainly something I am looking to fix soon!
