OK, so today the hose that goes in (or out) of the bulkhead to maybe the heating core (?) leaked and the plastic fitting in the hose just cracked...how difficult of a job is this to replace?

it's not too bad. the first time is tricky, but once you've done it once before, it's a breeze

can you please let us know how you go cause one of my cooling hoses is leaking and I think I'll have to do the same soon and being a novice I'm a little trepidatious (correct spelling?)

The plastic inlet/outlet fitting on the heater valve has crumbled--they do that with age. You will have to replace the heater valve.

This can be a swine of a job (I've done it twice), so do yourself a favor--take the time to do a thorough search of this Forum for "heater valve". You need to buy the right item (cheapos die quickly) and you need to know the tricks for replacing it.
