I had the SID on my '03 2.3t, tell me that I was low on coolant today. Took a look under the hood. the reservoir was low. Tried to find the source of the leak. Found a good potential leak area around the Drive shaft, the hub area that goes into the axle. Could not find (either by sight or feel), any hoses or other sources of the leak, besides the shaft area.
Does Coolant go into the shaft/axle area?
It is red/brown in color, like whats in the reservoir. But it seemed odd to me that coolant would go into that area.
Maybe I have a loose gasket or seal. I'm hoping it's not anything major.
Some Advisor help would be nice.

:)

The coolant should be sweet to taste and sticky to feel.

A oil/fluid will be slippery, oily..

This is where the pressure tester is used - to detect coolant leaks more quickly..

Have your dealer check the heater bypass valve.

Yeah, I finally was able to "catch it red handed" last weekend.
I went to my indi SAAB mechanic and bought a new one for $45. :D
Changed it out myself the other day, so far so good.
Thanks for the advise though.
