What is the difference (function/location) between the coolant temparature "sender" part # 9182205 and the coolant temparature "sensor" Part # 15393755?

I have a 1999 2.0 9-3.

I don't know which is which, but one sends a signal to the temp gauge on the dash, the other sends a signal to the car's computer. Usually the one going to the car's computer is listed under fuel injection parts.

Ok I believe i have the right part. I can visually see the sensor on the drivers Left hand drivers side but how do you get to it? Do I need to disconnect the upper coolant hoses in order to gain access or do I need a special tool like an o2 socket wrench?
