I am investigating why the CV top on my 2004 9-3 doesn't drop and found a very frayed wire. It looks like the top mechanism caught the wire at some point.
I don't know what purpose the wire serves. It's located on the (LHD) driver's side right by the manual release.
I have attached photos to show the wear.
Would someone provide...
  • A photo of the wire with proper routing
  • The purpose of wire
I would really appreciate it.

Since it doesn't sound like you have it, you should download Workshop Information System (WIS) and the parts catalogue EPC from the Tech II section of general topics.

It looks like that wire is used for the sixth bow left hand lock (image from WIS):

Unfortunately WIS seems pretty terse about cable routing (from the procedure to change sensor):

Wire is rear defroster power wire.
Fix it ASAP and make sure that it stays out of hinges.
