Thanks for the advice so far

- i have decided to buy the Infinity Kappa 42.5i speakers for the front of my 1990 Convertible, Oyster, was the glove box the only obsticle?

A couple more questions if I may:

1. Does it matter that the speaker cable to the front speakers is only about 0.5m each. The lengths to my rear and subwoofer are both 10m, will there be a noticable delay? Should I put more length on the fronts?

2. Is there a really good 16.5inch rear speaker anyone would recommend?

3. Is it possible to get the rubber that surrounds the speedo and dash to fit properly or do we just live with the gap?

4. Where, in the UK (or US??) is good to get the seals that surround the top of the drivers window - i really do want to get rid of the wind whistle noise if I can!!

5. How much and where is a good place to buy a rear bumper?

Finally, out of interest, why on some convertibles doed the black trim extend from the mid-stripe right to the bottom of thye car. Was this just on Turbo's? I have a 900i and mine remains as a stripe right around the car, except for the bumpers of course.

Thanks

1. The delay is in the billionths of seconds. Don't change a thing. However, be sure to connect the speakers 'in phase' with one another -- that is, connect the same polarity (+/-, red/white, etc.) to the same connectors on the speakers.

4. If you fix it, please let me know!! Mine is driving me nuts. Adjustment information available on http://www.townsendimports.com click on SaabMaster>Enter>Technical Documents>Body>Convertible Top and Window Adjsutment (or something like that). I've been fiddling with mine without success.

5. Are you speaking of a body kit vs. standard trim?

Body Kit:

Standard:

The body kits are for Aero or SPG models. Perhaps some very late turbo models, too. You can always upgrade, I'm toying with doing that to mine (seen in the bottom picture above).

Have you tried adjusting the windows and their seals? If you partly open the top, you'll see two or three dome nuts securing the seal carriers in place. Loosen them, adjust the seal positions and tighten. If the seals are damaged, you'll have to go looking for new.

Rear bumper you'll get from a scrapyard.

As for the plastic trim, some of the 'verts came with the "aero" kit. The basic 900i 'vert didn't. I picked up a 1985 aero kit from TfatC in January last and fitted it to my 1990 'vert. Looks very nice... You'll have a hard time getting one to suit the 'vert though since most of the aeros are 3-door and the rear bumper extension may be a different length. Otherwise, there's a small amount of drilling and riveting required to fit the aero kit. I had to do a bit of modifying to get the rear bumper and side skirt from a hatch to fit the saloon shape of the 'vert.

I just did. Well, half done. I have the (<1987) aero kit upgrade done, and I'm waiting for flat front grille and lights from Si to complete the face-drop. A full description will be posted later...

Cdaly -- please snap a few pics of the way that the front looks with the pre-facelift bumper and the slant grille and lights and post them, if you please! You would be surprised how many people ask about/wonder about this combination (mostly pre-facelift cars that wanna be partially lifted). I would like a couple of pics just to satisfy my curiosity about the combination myself.

Thanks,

Good choice with the Infinitys!

The glove box is not that bad. Just feed the line from the top of the speaker opening at an angle to the radio opening in the dash. Just keep feeding the wire until you see it through the opening.

You will not be able to notice a difference with the wire lengths between the front and back.

If you are looking for good speakers in the rear then match those Kappas with the same speakers, just the different size.

Let us know how that install turns out and make sure to put that subwoofer in an enclosure of some sort. That will keep the bass clean and clear.

Also make sure that nothing is loose on the back end, like the licence plate. There is nothing more pathetic than a car with a great system....that RATTLES when the bass hits! :nono;

Crank it up! :cheesy:

I have only a blurry front pic at present and a couple of side of front pics. I'll post clearer when I manage to get some. Here's my writeup so far on the process: http://cod.homelinux.org/C/saab/images/aeropics/aerokit.html and here's the front pic:

ive heard of aero's being so called because of the aircraft heritage of saab, but the inclusion of an acutal jetplane on the roof is taking it a tad too far:roll:
