Ok, I picked up an all in one remote on ebay for my 99 9-3. Then I went to my dealer to order the key blade. I had the remote itself programmed while I was there and told them to ship the blade to my house when it came in. However, once I have put my new key together, up pops the message "key not accepted". Then by purely accident i happen to press in the unlock button while the key is in the start position. The car starts! Quite shocked, I look back at the SID and it is still displaying "key not accepted". After playing around a bit more to find any other ways to start the car with the new key, I find it also starts if the last key I used in it was the original one. Has anyone else run into this? I'd like to fix it without going to the dealer, but I have a feeling that I'm gonna need a transponder programmed into the car.

I think you do need to take it in, unfortunately, although I am surprised they didn't tell you this?!?!
