I was having an issue with the top on my 1996 900SE so I went to use my Tech 2 and found that I could not communicate with the top computer.

I've had problems before but it would always come around, this time it would not. I wonder if having the data wires for the radio disconnected is causing the problem.

I recently installed a double DIN radio (original radio failed) and of course, the radio does not support the Saab network.

If this is an issue do I need to tie the wires together and/or put a resistor between them?

Unless you damaged a wire, or it's grounding out to something removing the factory radio should not impact communication with the top computer. Still, it's best practice to Remove the radio with Tech 2 if you're replacing it.

Move top manually and try again.
I had roof failure ng900, which STC never answered when top is fully down. When raised even a hint, all is OK. Owner did not want repair, he can live with this "issue".
