Hiya!

I have a 1999 Saab 9-5, 4 cyl, auto trans. that I bought used 6 months ago. It now has about 183k miles on it. The engine is strong and the car has been running very well except for a few minor things that were repaired (heater fan, SID).

However, recently, with the bitter cold weather (I'm near Philadelphia, USA), I experienced an issue with the tranny. I would back out of the drive way at my home no problem. At this point I've let the car warm up a little but it's still pretty cold. When I put it in drive it goes forward at slow speed (<10 mph) a bit (3-10 yds) and I hear a CLUNK sound that does NOT seem to come from the engine, and the car refuses to go forward anymore. It goes back in reverse no problem. After it warms up to normal temp, it runs fine, forward and back!

This has happened on 3 different days.

Any idea what might be going on? I'd really appreciate any help, thanks!
