Clutch breakage. tech help???

after driving the car yesterday my mom reversed okay out of a parking spot, put car into 1st to have the car stall on her. somehow between my drive and when she tried 1st gear, the clutch broke. when the clutch pedal is engaged, you hear a squish as the pedal hits the floor, but the actual clutch does not engage. turning the car on in reverse with clutch pedal in stalls the car. so no matter what the clutch wont engage. so whats the problem?
Clutch master cylinder? a major leak or a major break? i'm going to poke around it myself before i take it anywhere just to try and get a good idea of whats going on.

Okay i read a Clutch issue post a few threads down and got some info to get me started. and i wonder if the problem is the same for me? its too early ot tell i have to work before i can get to look at the car. it was very hot out when this happened. in traffic, my saab overheats real quick, too.

thanks,
-marty

There is lots of wonderful info about the clutch on this site, you will have to at least find the item thats faulty, which wont be hard, from what your saying it sounds like your slave, and i feel your pain.

Your in for a fun time if it is, i kid you not:lol:

If hydraulic fluid is dropping in the reservoir and dribbling out around the front of the engine, your slave has failed.

If there is fluid leaking into the car, under the carpet, from the clutch master cylinder pushrod, the master cylinder is bad. Also, if there is no leakage anywhere, the m/c could still be bad. The seals fail internally and the fluid just cycles around inside without pushing on anything.

Just do a search on "clutch master" or "clutch slave" and you'll get loads of threads, some of which are bound to be the same as the problem you are having.

And I don't think your signature is working. Images are disabled in signatures, but you could put in a link to one hosted elsewhere.
