Where do you find a proper splined tool (assuming I don't have a tranny to pull the input shaft from)? Any local sources?

It's a common tool. GM or Ford uses the same spline count. IIRC it's 1", 14-spline. Dorman 14504 or CTA 6206.

I have a couple of ones that came in a clutch kit, I also have an input shaft I cut off a transmission (it fits a little better than the alignment tools) if you need.
