When I picked up my '06 9-3, I thought that the center of my wheels were just black. After reading the forum and seeing pictures of others' wheels, I realized they should have the griffin head on them. I checked a bit closer, and sure enough the griffin head is present, but not readily visible more than 3' from the car. Anyone else have this happen? Recommendations on what to use/how to clean them?

Using simple rubbing alcohol is the "magic" remedy. It also works on the trunk and hood badging as well.

Once you get 'em clean, you might find them to be dull and cloudy. A few minutes with a decent polish (I used Meguiars) will shine them up like new.

i had used rubbing alcohol on mine when i got my car and they became dull and gummy. lol not sure i would call that magic. i had to buy stickers to cover mine

I Should have mentioned that once you clean them with isopropyl alcohol it strips the wax and any protective finish that has been applied. SO putting some vinyl protector or good car polish/wax ( as was mentioned previously in this string of posts) is important. Additionally, using a lower dust pad ( like Akebono euro-ceramics) makes a huge difference in not attacking the vinyl like the OEM pads on the 9-3SS.

I did a writeup on this a while back. I used GOJO hand cleaner, them used a headlight polishing kit. They came out brand new.

I also used isopropyl alcohol and then used a spray on, UV resistant, acrylic to protect it. Mine have a slight orange peel texture but you wont notice unless you get up close. This might be avoidable with better spraying technique.

Simply Green is not too harsh. You can also use peanut butter to get sticky stuff off.
